seattleunity.org mdash;Reverend Karen Lindvig #39;s sermon "Co-creating a New World" explores how we may balance authority and compassion within ourselves to be part of co-creating a new world. She uses the story of Joseph and Mary in bringing forth the Christ child to illustrate how we may grow spiritually, and help improve society as well. With regard to improving society, Karen visits the joyful celebration of the birth of Christ, the God child in contrast to the sad and solemn reflection of the mass murder of children and adults in Connecticut, Portland, Aurora and many other places, as well as the many children killed by drone strikes in Pakistan and elsewhere in the Middle East. She guides the Seattle Unity congregation into the understanding that we are complex beings and so can experience both the joyful emotions associated with these year-end Holy Days as well as the sad emotions associated with the killing of so many children and adults. Karen also weaves together the ideas of Eckhart Tolle (A New Earth) and Barbara Marx Hubbard (Emergence) to help us make the shift bring forth a world that is more peaceful and less violent. In the experiential part of the sermon, she guides the members of the Seattle Unity Spiritual Community through a series of brief writing exercises to practice the lessons of this sermon of co-creating a new world.
