Inhale the refreshing breeze through your nose.

Feel the flow of water beneath your feet.

Look up and see the expansive blue sky.

Stand-up paddleboard yoga engages the body and mind, allowing them to become one with the natural elements, Teresa Van Eyk says. The new form of yoga is one she recently started offering through her downtown Saugatuck studio, Satya Yoga, 133 Butler St.

For those who practice yoga regularly, the activity becomes a lifestyle, and many yogis are looking for different ways to practice it, Van Eyk said. And moving the practice outdoors to a body of water provides the perfect opportunity to mix things up a bit, especially in the summer.

Stand-up paddleboard yoga is just as it sounds its the practice of yoga while standing, sitting or kneeling on a stand-up paddleboard. The board acts as the mat and the shoreline the focal point.

Van Eyk and other Satya Yoga instructors take students out to Goshorn Lake every Saturday morning in the summer for about an hour to practice yoga outside of the confines of a room and take in moments of quiet meditation.

Its about just feeling really calm and serene, Van Eyk said.

Its almost impossible to think about anything else, Satya Yoga instructor Stacy Van Howe said. Your to-do list fades away and you really cant think about what youre going to do after you get off the board.

Satya partners with Coast2Coast SUP for board rentals and instruction and all SUP yoga first-timers are required to take an introduction to paddle boarding lesson before signing up for a class.
