Police arrest man, 75, for threats over aerobics class Man at apartment complex angered over noise issues related to exercisers

by Sue Dremann Palo Alto Weekly Staff

Edward Gordon, a Palo Alto resident, allegedly became enraged because noise from the class had repeatedly disturbed him at his Oak Creek Drive apartment. The class at the Oak Creek Apartments had been moved to an area near his unit during a gymnasium renovation at the complex on the 1600 block of Sand Hill Road near Stock Farm Drive, police Officer Sean Downey said.

Gordon went to the complex office at about 3 p.m. to complain about the ongoing noise. The manager, a San Francisco woman in her 40s, came out of her office to confront Gordon after she overheard him allegedly threaten an employee and say that he had a gun, Downey said. The victim told Gordon that she was calling the police and that he couldn't make threats.

He allegedly threatened to return with a gun and shoot her, Downey said.

The victim tried to back away into her office and shut the door as a barrier between herself and Gordon. But he rapidly pushed the door open, and it knocked the victim down, Downey said. The victim called police after Gordon left the office.

Police contacted him at his residence, where he was placed under arrest. Gordon was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for battery and making criminal threats.
