Instructor: Kirsten Warner, of Boulder (kirstenwarner.com). She has more than 20 years of training in several different styles of yoga, including Anusara yoga.

"It wasn't until I found this one teacher, Sofia Diaz, who specialized in women's yoga, that a lot of things opened up for me. That was about 11 years ago," Warner says.

At the heart of that experience: the community connection with women.

Warner is a women's group facilitator, an E-RYT 500 instructor and she has attended a variety of different workshops. She studied psychology at Naropa University.

She is also a mother of two.

She created a women's yoga class about six years ago.

"I know what it's meant to my own life, and how it changed me," Warner says. "I see so many women suffer with depression and anxiety, and a lot of it is they're just losing connection."

The Yoga Loft opened in south Boulder in September.

What is the workout? Yoga was originally designed by men for men, Warner says. To her, Women's Yoga is a relatively new concept that intentionally recognizes and honors the subtle differences in a woman's body, mind and heart. The class is arranged in a circle. My class had no music, but plenty of talking, laughter and even some tears (I admit, a few of my own).
