http://www.drlesliegaskill.com and http://www.plaquebusters.net sponsored the First Annual Plaque Busters 5K Run on September 15th, 2012 in Johns Creek Georgia. It was a blast! Plaque Busters which was founded by Leslie S. Gaskill, MD a leading expert in detection, assessment, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular disease, is a mission for educating and empowering children and adults about the prevention of heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes. Our mascot "Plaque Buster" is a big heart with a fuse on the top of his head. "Plaque" teaches about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle so one doesn #39;t have their fuse blow up ie and have a heart attack or stroke! "Plaque" in the arteries (which is atherosclerosis) is preventable and reversible if identified in a timely fashion. Children also are developing plaque in their arteries secondary to the lifestyles of poor eating and excercise habits. Heart Attack is the number one killer in women and men. The number of strokes even in children, teens, and adults is increasing.The beneficiaries of our first 5K included the American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association, Schools and Sports teams. Additionally, Lake Windward Elementary School #39;s First grader Carson Phillips won $1000 for his school for his winning team; the Junior Longhorn cheerleaders won $1000 for scholarship money, and the Shockers baseball team won $1000 for new baseball equipment.
