A majority of the womens track and field team will be heading to Toledo while others will be spreading out around the country.

Freshman jumper Marsielle McBeam qualified for the Mid-American Conference championships last weekend in South Florida and will be making the trip to Toledo to try to build on her performance last weekend.

Ive been training hard; I expected to do better in Florida, said McBeam. The traveling wasnt the best experience going into a meet, but I did what I had to do.

The outdoor track and field season has just started, and McBeam has a positive outlook on her team and their competition.

Everybody has been coming together, McBeam said. The team spirit is there, and in terms of competition, we want to be in the top three.

McBeam stresses the importance of overall team performance in order to accumulate and for the team to finish near her goal at the top of the standings. Her work ethic has even been stepped up despite her qualifying results at USF.

Ive been preparing myself to do more reps and more explosive stuff to prepare me for next weekend, McBeam said.

As far as personal numbers and goals are concerned, McBeam does not shy away from being openly optimistic and blunt. According to her, achieving success is a necessity.

I need to be over 5-9, McBeam said. My aim right now is to be at least 5-10 and my expectations are high; I have to aim for that from now on.

The team will be splitting up from some of the runners and heading to Ohio for the Toledo Collegiate Invitational. CMU will be competing from Friday to Saturday in the two-day event.
