Nurse refuses to do CPR hear the 911 call
A nurse #39;s refusal to perform CPR on a dying 87-year-old woman at a California care home despite desperate pleas from an emergency dispatcher has prompted outrage in America and spawned a criminal investigation. Lorraine Bayless collapsed in the dining room of the retirement home at Glenwood Gardens in Bakersfield, California, which offers different levels of care. She lived in an independent living building, which state officials said is like an apartment complex and doesn #39;t operate under licensing oversight. On February 26, an unidentified woman rang the emergency services from a mobile phone to ask for paramedics to be sent to help an unconscious resident. Later, a woman who identified herself as the nurse took the phone and told dispatcher Tracey Halvorson that she was not permitted to do Cardio-Pulmonary Resucitation (CPR) on Mrs Bayless. Ms Halvorson urged the nurse to start CPR, warning that the patient could die if they did not follow her instructions. Listen to the 911 call for what followed.
