DESTA: Success Stories
In 2006, a group of community workers came together to discuss the needs of marginalized Black youth. A year later, they received a seed grant from Human Resources Canada and launched a pilot project. Twelve youth participated in this six-month employment-focused initiative. The pilot project came to an end, but the needs of the youth did not. To continue this vital work with disadvantaged young adults, DESTA Black Youth Network was born. DESTA is a community-based, not-for-profit organization serving marginalized and at-risk youth between the ages of 18-25 in the Greater Montreal area. Our mission is to mentor these youth in the areas of education, health and personal development, and employment. Through our programs, DESTA aims to support the process of empowerment, strengthen authentic identity, and promote excellence.
