IN A move that will contradict his "bad boy" on-screen image, Axle Whitehead is about to become the face of Griffith's new health and fitness initiative.

The Home and Away star will be in town on November 22 to launch Community Heart Griffith, a council program promoting physical activity and healthy eating.

Whitehead rose to fame as a contestant on Australian Idol in 2004, then hosted Channel Ten's Video Hits for two years before landing the job as Liam Murphy on Home and Away.

He has had two top 10 singles and was named Cleo Bachelor of the Year in 2009.

"I am really excited to be heading to Griffith and being a part of Community Heart Griffith," he said.

"It is important that communities become involved in healthy lifestyle programs anything that reduces the risk of obesity-related illness and encourages everyone to get active is worthwhile in my books."

The program launch at City Park will feature fitness demonstrations, health checks and live entertainment including a Zumba dance party.

Guests will be given the opportunity to sign up for free physical activity and healthy eating programs.

3C Technology Shop manager Alan Barton, who is sponsoring the launch with a prize giveaway, said the program meant there was no longer an excuse for people to sit on the couch instead of exercising.
