RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Health Net Federal Services, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Health Net, Inc. (HNT), today announced its sponsorship of the 28th annual Army Ten-Miler (ATM) on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.

Health Net Federal Services is honored to again support the Army Ten-Miler. We are committed to health and physical fitness activities that help improve the quality of life for U.S. military service members and their families. This event also is an excellent opportunity to educate people face-to-face on the importance of preventive screenings, said Thomas Carrato, president, Health Net Federal Services.

To raise awareness of breast cancer screenings among women in the military and spouses of service members, Health Net Federal Services developed a unique camouflage and pink ribbon pin that will be distributed at Health Nets booth at the ATM Health and Fitness Expo, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19 and 20, 2012. Additionally, runners can stop by the Health Net booth on race day and pick up a free pin to wear as a symbol of a united front in the fight against breast cancer within the military community and serve as a reminder that screening saves lives.

At the booth, Health Nets goal is to educate TRICARE beneficiaries on preventive screening eligibility and guidelines and, highlight the free annual breast cancer screenings available to eligible TRICARE beneficiaries. All attendees are welcome to come by the Health Net booth on Friday and Saturday to learn tips to stay healthy and to enter the hourly raffle for an iPod Shuffle. Winners must be present to claim their prize.

On race day, kids can participate in the Health Net and Blue Star Families co-sponsored 100- and 200-meter Youth Runs and enjoy the ATM Youth Activities Zone, where they can meet and have their picture taken with Champ the Cheetah, the Activity Zones official mascot.

Following the race, Health Net will be handing out bottled water and other drinks to runners from its tent with Blue Star Families, which will be distributing Operation Honor Cards, a program encouraging Americans to serve as volunteers in their communities to honor service members, veterans and military families.

All proceeds of the Army Ten-Miler will support the Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), a comprehensive network of support and leisure services designed to enhance the lives of active duty, Reserve and National Guard soldiers and their families. Certain civilian employees, military retirees and other eligible participants benefit from MWR programs as well.
